APW - Elgin, Grade 50, Convertible model, 15J, 16S, very heavy 14K multicolor gold drum style K&U (Keller & Untermeyer) HC recase with superb hunting scene to rear featuring a hunter firing at a bird along with the hunter's two dogs ready for its retrieval, initials to front, gold cuvette with raised lip to which a bezel can be attached to display a photo, white enamel SS fancy dial with gold foil numeral surrounds and decoration around center, fancy gilt Louis XV style hands, SW-LS, nickel damascene, s#2447933. Gross weight of assembled watch 79.8 dwt (124.1 g). A spectacular case with one of the most eye-catching hunting scenes we have encountered.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking sluggishly, overhaul recommended, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, plates with some micro-fine scratches, oxide to regulator assembly, some spots of oxide elsewhere to steelwork; dial with two hls from center to 12, hl above seconds-register, perimeter fracture under bezel between 1:30 and 2:30, small edge chip under bezel at 12, very small edge flake under bezel at 9; fine hands; case shows hardly any wear, short scratch with associated ding at right perimeter of front, some additional dings elsewhere to front, rear with few mild small dings or nicks to upper portion of scene, excellent engraving detail, cuvette is lacking its photo bezel; tight bow thinned at top, crown shows medium wear with ridge break; good glass crystal.
